‘What the hell is a shacket?’ I hear you ask. It’s nothing toilet related, despite my boyfriend insinuating that it sounds like it is. It’s in fact a shirt-jacket, or overshirt – and is one of my spring and summer evening staples.
I have a few in my wardrobe – one plain khaki one, which is a men’s Uniqlo one; a camo print one and my newest addition: a dreamy pink one from &OtherStories. I’ve found them to be almost essential – perfect for wearing over dresses, jumpers, tees, dungarees… you name it – a perfect spring layer. Scroll on for my Spring 2021 shacket favourites…

Man in dark green overshirt

This overshirt comes in a wide range of sizes – from a men’s XXS to 3XL, making it a great option for so many of us. It’s a reasonable price for the quality, too. I have a previous season’s version of this and I’m really happy with it – it requires minimal ironing and goes with loads. I tend to wear it with a black tee or polo neck and black trousers for work, or with jeans and a fun patterned tee at the weekend. It’s a great one to pack for holiday too, because it goes with so much! You can buy it here.

This one’s a recent purchase for me and I LOVE it. It’s slightly thicker than the other shackets I’ve tried, and so is warm enough for spring while still being a lovely spring colour (so many coats that are warm enough are dark and wintery!). It’s definitely an investment, but I’ve already worn it loads and will carry on doing so – even with delicate dresses for the cooler summer evenings we have here in the UK. You can buy it here (and get 10% off if you sign up to the mailing list!). Size down, it’s very oversized.

Another pastel number, but at a lower price point. I love this colour for spring, and it’ll go with loads. The tortoise shell buttons are dreamy! You can buy it here.

Woman in blue overshirt jacket

I am *quite* obsessed with houndstooth (I even have a dreamy houndstooth desk chair which I love!). This would look great to jazz up a plainer outfit (I’m thinking monotone with red lipstick) or even with a clashing print. A reasonable price, too. You can buy it here.

Want the shacket look but don’t want to go whole hog? This cropped number is the one for you. A great length for wearing over dresses or skirts, as well as with jeans or trousers. And with Whistles, you know it’ll be decent quality too. You can buy it here.
